Just had to let off a bit of steam about something that I’ve noticed so many times recently that it strikes me as almost unbelievable, and that is how many companies misspell the word “professional” in their marketing materials. The odd misspelling happens, sure, but surely alarm bells ring with anyone who’s half awake when they’re typing certain words?
I mean, come on! There are 110,000,000 occurrences of the misspelling “profesional” on Google!
In our industry, where getting things right really counts, would you trust a company that offered “profesional web design”? Yet there are 110,000 instances on Google of ”profesional web design” and 5,000-odd of the so-blatantly-wrong-it-hurts “proffesional web design”.
A quick scroll through the results shows many companies who actually have the phrase on their pages (rather than just in their metadata or as PPC campaign misspellings).
So here’s a plea: If you’re a “profesional web design company” (or a “proffesional web design agency”) please be a bit more… professional. You’re letting the side down big style.
(By the way, if you thought I was talking about the word “misspell”, turns out that that, too, is in the top 100 misspelled words. Dear oh dear…)

Incidentally, ‘profesional’ is correct Spanish, and ‘web design’ is used in Spanish (at least outside of Spain, where they tend to be fussy with the language) often. So finding the words ‘profesional web design’ doesn’t necessarily mean all 110,000,000 are typos.
A good point! Do Spanish-speaking people really speak of “profesional web design?” or would they say “diseño web profesional” or something along those lines?
I did a re-search for fun, and it turns out that even in pages from the UK alone there are 1,300,000 misspellings of the word. Still quite shameful. then…
